An accident investigation turned into a homicide investigation when the driver of a car that struck a school turned out to have been fatally shot.
Julian Bell, 34, was shot while driving a vehicle near the intersection of 72nd and Green streets, police said.

August 3, 11:04 a.m. Two men and a woman were shot at 3825 W. Chicago Ave., according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak. One man, Roderick Martinez, 36, was fatally shot in the head and another man was shot in the foot Sunday.
The wounded man was taken to Norwegian-American Hospital in good condition. The 37-year-old woman standing in the area suffered a graze wound to the back from a stray bullet, police said. She was treated and released on the scene.

As police were clearing the crowd out of the area, they heard two loud pops, and the crowd, including a 26-year-old victim who was shot, began running away, police said.
The bloody man tried to get inside a vehicle and told police who approached him that he was going to try and get himself to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston.
Police believe the shooter was “definitely” one of the 15-20 in the crowd but the man who was shot was being uncooperative with police and would not disclose who his attacker was.

Both were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where the man was taken in serious but “stable” condition and the woman was said to be in good condition, Duewerth said.
The gunman was described as a 5-foot-6, 150 pound man with a street nick name of “Petey,” Duewerth said.
“Petey” was last seen wearing a black hoodie with red lettering.
The shooting may have been gang-related but the victims denied any gang affiliations, Duewerth said.
No one is in custody Sunday morning.

Two men in their 20s were standing on the sidewalk in the 4800 block of North Sheridan Road when an unknown person approached them and fired multiple shots, according to police News Affairs.

Emergency crews responding to the scene of a car that crashed into a tree on the South Side on Saturday night found the passenger, 59-year-old Woodrow Culverson, has been shot.
The driver of the car, which struck a tree at 6640 S. King Dr., fled the scene on foot, police said.
Culverson was shot multiple times, according to the medical examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital at 10:09 p.m. Saturday.
