Very tough climb and the downhill also a bit of a problem. The heat also a bit of a problem.

Taking on Ribbok Trail. Up Generaalkop and then over Brandwag mountain.

A great run in the Upington area. Although its an 8-9 hour drive from Jhb its worth the trip. Maybe make a long weekend out of it. The race is mainly on dirt roads. The first half is practically flat as you run on Kanoneiland. The second half is on the farm and there you encounter some minor climbing. Nothing to make you walk. The biggest problem you have is the heat. The wate...

Very very hot. Should have been an easy running day.

Tough day at the office especially the last 5km through the forest. I think we crossed the same river 6 times.

Dirt road for most of the race. Second half is mainly flat and downhill. The climb to the turning point is not that bad. The scenery is amazing! A race worth doing.

A great race around the end of the peninsula. The opening climb up Redhill wakes you up and gives you great views over False Bay. The last 10km from Cape Point down to Simonstown provides one with great views across the bay.

A great undulating run in the country. From 14km to 26km its on dirt road as you go behind the mountain. Halfway is at the top of a 2.5km climb. You drop down for about 5km back to the tar road and then climb up to 30km. After about 2km of downhill you start the undulations back to the finish. Worth the trip!!

The one race in Gauteng where the public gets involved. This is the race where they almost always run out of water. But its not such a big deal because the people on the sides of the road will get you water. Not the easiest route but a race worth trying.

Do this run if you are an experienced marathoner. Once you out in the country there are not many people. No km markers. First one at halfway and then a few until the last 10km which is counted down. If you enjoy running alone then this is the race for you. Water points are excellent. You may think this is the flattest marathon you have done but you seem to be climbing, even th...

Good run in the rain. Enjoy the waterpoints 2km apart as you can see your next mark to run to.

Don't let all the downhill fool you. A very hot day in the mountain.

Very hot. Busy main road. Great scenery. Excellent organisation. Standard marathon number 86 completed.

Need to leave Ransdburg at 4:15am to get to start without sitting in a major traffic jam.

A great race. Well worth the traveling from Johannesburg (about 4 hours). Typical small town race where all the locals welcome you to their town. Catch the bus from the finish, in Christiana, at 5am and it gets you to the start, in Jan Kempdorp, by about 6am. Race starts at 6:30am but there is coffee and sandwiches and bananas to keep you refreshed before the start. The star...

A tough run through the West Coast park. The second half is where the real work begins. I managed to resist the beer at the 24km water point. Weather was way cooler than last year and that helped. The Mamba is a mean hill!!

Nobody told me Chapmans Peak was on the dirt road. Nausea and 40 degree heat did not help.

One of the tougher marathons that I have done. The climb from about 7km to 21km seems to go on forever. When you think it is all downhill to the finish you get hit with a few more hills. The last 5km is all gentle climbing. Fortunately the weather was cool on the day. If it had been in the upper 30s as it was the previous day there would have been more casualties on the road....

An undulating route from Scottburgh to Amanzimtoti. Weather was overcast and humid. More people would have battled if the sun was shining. The route was a bit tougher than I expected especially the last few km. Route markings were not great. The water in the first half tasted terrible. The locals tell me that this race is known for bad water. A great run along the coast that b...

Its great when a race is well organised. Compared to a few years ago Bonitas has ensured that C2C can possibly become the leading ultra marathon in Gauteng. Water points and organisation top class this year. Well done guys. The new route to the finish may be a bit more difficult at the end but it keeps us off the main roads.
