Two of the three graces suffer a near miss as a bomb lands between the Cunard Buildings and the Port of Liverpool Building, cratering the road. The photographer was looking up the road, away from the Pierhead

A parachute mine lands near to the Port of Liverpool Building starting a fire that badly damages the upper floor and one corner of the building. Initial reports talk of the offices being "completely destroyed". The wartime photographer has captured the aftermath of this, showing the damaged corner section

7: St Nicholas' Church

Interior photographs of Liverpool's Parish Church showing the extensive fire damage it suffered during the air raids. The Church was as badly damaged as St Luke's on Leece Street, but a temporary chapel was built during the war, and the overall church repaired afterwards

The photograph shows what was at the time the image was taken the main surviving section of the station, the tall tower. This contained the hydraulic system used to operate the lifts. Adverts for the Daily Dispatch and Daily Sketch cling precariously to the remains whilst the rear of Albion House is seen on the left

11: Custom House

The shell of John Foster's enormous Custom House is all that remains after the building had been badly damaged by both High Explosives and fire bombs during the May Blitz. The wartime image shows the front of the building that faced out onto Strand Street.
