Nkana area 'E' open pit is situated west of Kitwe, north of the Central shaft. The pit strikes in a north-west – south-eastdirection with a length of 1000 m, a width of 200 m, and a maximum depth of 50 m.
The Area “E” open pit covers an area of approximately 13,000 m2. Although mining in this pit ceased in 1983, an aggregate crushing plant was recently constructed in the west end of the pit in order to process some of the waste rock.
