After rounding the Cape of Good Hope the remainder of Magellan's crew stopped in the familiar Cape Verde islands which was one of the early stops for the crew as they journeyed to the South tip of the Americas. At this point the captain saw it as dire need to stop after many of his crew died in going around the cape. The Portuduese who controlled the island detained 13 crew in the Cape Islands and at this point the remaining crew began its leg of the journey home. All that remained of Magellan original crew was 18 crew men, 1 captain, and the cargo of cloves and cinnamon. Below is the captain of the Victoria, Juan Sebastián del Cano, the man responsible for finishing Magellans voyage.
