The Lebanese National Library succeeds to the historical Great Library of Beirut, inaugurated in 1922 and closed in 1979 during the war. It will open to the public in 2015 in its future premises in Sanayeh. To celebrate International Archives Day, the Library will exhibit, in its current location (Port of Beirut), a selection of its treasures: one of the first Arabic printed Biblia Sacra from the 17th century, the first issues of Arabic periodicals, illustrated Orientalists works, Lebanese printed books from the 19th century, and some surprising Lebanese books from the 1950s.
