16: Bushfire Advice Message

AGNES WATER: ADVICE message. The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service is advising:

A large bushfire is currently burning at Euleilah (south of Agnes Water). Firefighters have worked throughout the night backburning and strengthening containment lines.

The blaze, which has been burning since Tuesday, 16 October, is within containment lines and is currently not threatening any property.

olume of smoke is affecting the area and residents in the vicinity of Tableland Road, Hills Road, Cross Road and Whytallabah Road are asked to remain indoors and keep windows and doors closed. People with respiratory conditions should keep their medications close by.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area. Those driving should slow down and drive to conditions.

Residents should consider taking precautionary measures including:
- Put on protective clothing
- Drink lots of water
- Move car/s to a safe location
- Close windows and doors and shut blinds
- Bring pets inside and restrain them (leash, cage or secure room) and provide water
- Wet down fine fuels close to buildings
- Remove garden furniture, doormats and other items
- Seal all gaps under doors and screens
- Fill containers with water - eg bath, sinks, buckets, wheelie bins, etc
- Have ladders ready for roof space access (inside) and against roof (outside)
- Have generator or petrol pump ready
- Check and patrol outside for embers and extinguish any spot fires and seek shelter as the fire front arrives.

17: Fraser Island Great Walk Closed

Fraser Island Great Walk Closed - 18 October 2012 until further notice.

The Fraser Island Great Walk is closed due to high fire danger conditions. The Great Walk will remain closed until a change in conditions reduces the fire threat. For your safety, do not enter closed tracks and please obey all signage and directions provided by QPWS staff.

The following day walks remain open:

Central Station to Pile Valley
Central Station to Lake McKenzie via Basin Lake
Lake McKenzie to Kingfisher Bay via Dundonga Creek
Kingfisher Bay to McKenzie's Jetty

18: Fire Weather Warning

FIRE WEATHER WARNING
for the Northwest, Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and parts
of the Central West, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Channel Country
districts.
Issued at 4:05am EST on Sunday the 21st of October 2012
for Sunday.

Hot, dry and gusty winds over large parts of inland Queensland are expected to
cause the following conditions on Sunday:

Severe Fire Danger in the Northwest, Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and
Granite Belt, northwest parts of the Central West, southwest parts of the
Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and southern parts of the Channel Country
districts.

Temperatures up to 39 degrees, relative humidity down to about 5% and winds to
35 km/hr are expected. Locations which may be affected include Mount Isa,
Richmond, Thargomindah, Cunnamulla, St George and Inglewood.

The next warning will be issued by 11 am AEST.

19: Large Vegetation Fire

GREENBANK - grass fire. Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) crews remain at the scene of a vegetation fire burning in the Spring Mountain Conservation Reserve on Bellbird Drive, Greenbank. The blaze, which has been burning since Monday 15 October, has burnt more than 1,500 hectares. The fire is currently burning within containment lines and crews will continue to conduct backburning operatio
ns along Tully Road, Greenbank throughout the afternoon and into the night. Large volumes of smoke will be visible in the surrounding suburbs of Greenbank during backburning operations. A smoke haze is present for several kilometres around the fire. Residents are advised to keep their doors and windows closed and if they suffer from respiratory illness, keep medication close by. There is no current threat to property. Residents are urged to monitor their property and if they believe the situation has changed and their home is under threat, they should phone Triple Zero (000) immediately.
