Ishmael and I had been knocking about a trip to Carleton's Prize for quite a while. We had heard the tale of the Revolutionary War battle between Sir Guy Carleton and this small island in Lake Champlain and wanted to visit a piece of history. Accordingly, on Saturday of the recent 10th Annual ADK BBQ, we decided to set out from White's Beach near the South end of South Hero Is...

Winter paddle on the Chesapeake... The entrance to Parker Creek has a nice, exposed beach. The creek itself winds through low marsh. There wasn't alot of wildlife at this time of year, but it was quiet and felt remote nonetheless. The Bay was mostly calm and the we got a great push from the tide on the way back. Trip reports on our site at http://www.brkayak.com .

The trip south was on Friday 09/14/12, and the trip north was on Sunday 09/16/12. We poked around some campgrounds on Sunday morning. Campsite #19 was particularly nice, with a sandy landing in a little cove with a dock. This campsite has a nice view to the north with Bear Mountain rising 650' above the lake.

Although the way through the marsh isn't on any map, it is there. A fun paddle with tons of wildlife. Much of the beach along the route is public. All of our waypoints for each trip are on our website. So if you need detailed navigation, download the Garmin or .gpx file from brkayak.com. Just go to the "Trips" section.
