We left the ramp near the hamlet of Long lake about 10 am and headed Northeast up the lake. The lake is a treasure in the Adirondacks oriented with the prevailing breezes, almost 10 miles long and about half a mile wide. Second day out. The river was way down as we left Dodge Falls so we only got about 1 mph from the current to about a mile above Woodsville. There it got more fun as we zipped along for about 3/4 of a mile. The much storied whirlpool was non-existent. Paddle trail from Lassiter Mill Dam in downtown Raleigh, NC to Covered Bridge Rd in Clayton, NC. Initial 10 miles are through Crabtree Creek - very constricted and at times very polluted through residential and industrial areas.
