This frigate was decommissioned on 29th October 1951 and transferred on loan under the Mutual Assistance Program to Thailand as HTMS Prasae. The Thai Navy decommissioned her on 22nd June 2000, deciding to preserve the ship as a memorial at Sattahip Naval Base. Then on 22nd December 2003 she was towed to the mouth of the Prasae River, where she now resides on landlocked display since 27th December 2003 as the HTMS Prasae Memorial. Her original three US. 3”/50 guns were preserved by the Royal Thai Navy for spare parts, since these guns are still in use on some Thai ships, and were replaced by older Bofors 75/51 mm guns. A pair of single Bofors 40/60 mm AA guns were also removed, but 9 Oerlikon 20mm guns still remain. |

The stretch of the new coastal highway from this roundabout all the way along Chalao Beach eastward has now been finished, complete with cycleway, palm trees and lamp posts to line the road in the hope that the up-market look will attract more tourists and perhaps more foreign residents to the area. It remains to be seen whether the locals will make the effort necessary to keep such a nice road in good order. There is a variety of hotel and resort accommodation along Chalao Beach, but it has not yet really taken off as a popular place for foreigners to reside, perhaps because it is further from Bangkok and also a bit of a drive to the nearest big town (Chantaburi) for shopping. |

Laem Sing Bridge was built in 2007 and finished early 2008 at a cost of around 100 million Thai baht, and is crucial to the Thai Government's plans to create a new coastal highway linking all of the resorts from Laem Mae Phim in the west to Trat in the east. There's just one more bridge in the link to build now, which is that across the Prasae River to link Prasae to Laem Son. |

Koh Samet with it's beautiful white sand beaches is a popular holiday destination. Prices are a little more expensive than on the mainland but it's worth a visit for a few days.
Koh Talu is popular for it's white sand beach, coral reef, and famous for it's arch of rock in the north west tip of the island.
Wang Chon Chalet River Rafting provides rubber dinghy ridesor rubber kayak rides down the river. The river trip is about 12km in length and takes around 2 to 2 and a half hours to complete.

Pattaya Floating Market is a purpose built tourist attraction designed to provide a flavour of the real thing. It's free to enter and consists of a collection of islands in the lake, linked by wooden bridges. Each island has shops and restaurants and market traders float by in their boats selling fresh fruit and souvenirs. You can navigate the islands on foot, traversing the many bridges, or catch a ride with one of the boat people who will paddle you around the park.
Dino Park is another inexpensive attraction in the area which is fun to visit, especially if your child is really into Dinosaurs.
The park is a little run down nowadays, hence the price we paid of only 200 baht for 2 adults, a child and a baby, but apart from the huge dinosaur statues you also get to see some Bengal Tigers, can take a trek on an elephant if you wish, and they even have a small cable zip wire (not sure if this is still working though).
