There is no Fourth Ave north of 14th St, yet this building at 23rd and Park Ave designates it as Fourth Ave. Find out the story at the link.
Scouting NY: The River Below Fifth Ave - And You Can See It!
It's hard to believe, but many brooks and streams flow deep underground in Manhattan. The Minetta Brook follows a course down Fifth Ave and through Washington Square Park, and the building at 2 Fifth Ave was brilliant enough to build a pipe that allows water up from the river following rain falls.
Scouting NY: The 9th Ave Demons Don't Like You
Be sure to look up or you'll miss this building's interesting demons-mocking-you motif
Scouting NY: Tragedy on Broadway
Hidden behind the sign for the LOCO 99 CENTS store is this theatrical facade - was this building once a theater?

Awesome building motif featuring sculptures of people deep in thought, legs hanging off the building

A Sears Roebuck building in Midwood is out of business but still retains a classic look
Scouting NY: Hook & Ladder #8
Seriously, if there's one film location you want to see in person when you visit New York, could be anything but the Ghostbusters firehouse?

Outside of West Village, this has to be the skinniest building in New York City. It is amazing that something like this could possibly exist anywhere, let alone midtown
Scouting NY: A Rose Grows in Brooklyn
This steel rose was installed by the cover of night by a guerrilla artist
Scouting NY: Grove Street Surprise
This is one of the most beautiful treasures in New York City - a row of houses hidden in a court yard where you would never, ever expect to find them
Scouting NY: The Grand Central Rats
A very quirky bit over the Lexington Ave entrance to Grand Central: rats climbing up boat cables
Scouting NY: Economy Candy
Why are you still reading this? Go down to Economy Candy now, for all your mainstream and obscure candy needs
Scouting NY: Red Hook - Who Would've Thought?
OK, I know it's lame to devote a post to Red Hook like no one is aware of it...but really, how often do people make it a point to just go and walk around and see all the cool stuff in the neighborhood?
