My girlfriend Alex joined me for the first leg and her dad offered to take us and make a day of it, combining it with celebrating Alex's mum's birthday. We stopped for dinner with family friends in a little coastal village near Plymouth:

When we arrived in Las Palmas we had a celebratory drink:
We stayed in Las Palmas for 8 weeks waiting for the start of the ARC rally which Peregrine had entered and for which Peter had accepted me on his boat.
