New Forest PCT Adventure

On May 2nd I'll head North from the Mexican border and start my first 100 miles! I'll probably have sore muscles and painful blisters as my body adapts to life on the trail, but I’ll be excited to finally put months of planning into action.

Now that everything is broken in, I’ll start out on my second tract. The land will be open, there won’t be much water, and it will be HOT. I’m looking forward to seeing the chaparral landscape and some great bird species.

After 300 miles of blisters, glaring sun and rocky hills, the number 2600 starts to seem a whole lot longer…. I’m going to need all the support I can get to keep going as I start to climb into some higher elevations.

In this tract, I’ll pass by the Saufley and the Anderson households – these kind families open their homes to hikers, and offer some much-welcome relaxation after weeks on the trail.

This is where I cross the Mojave Desert! I’ll be sure to stock up on water, since temperatures can climb past 100 degrees.

Fun fact –it will take me about 3,502,000 steps to cover a 100-mile tract. That’s a lot of stepping.

At Kennedy Meadows, I add more gear to my back – some warmer clothes, an ice ax, and a bear canister. I'm entering the Sierras! I'll climb snowy passes and cross snow-melt rivers. At mile 766, I'll take a detour to climb Mt. Whitney - the highest point in the lower 48 states!
