0: Our London Walk!

On Day 2 we walked along the blue line. It's no wonder we were tired! See if you can use Google Maps to figure out how far we walked. Use Street View to remind yourself of some of the fantastic sights we saw.

You won't see 10 Downing Street like we did because Google's car wasn't allowed down the street!

1: Our Route to London

Look at the distance we covered in 4.5 driving hours. How fast were we going?

Más sobre Our Route to London

2: Our Route Home

Why did we take a different route home than we took to London? Which was shorter?

Más sobre Our Route Home

3: Smart Hyde Park Inn

Our hostel! They have rooms holding 1, 2, 4, 8, 9, or 15 beds. What would be the average number of people in a room?

Más sobre Smart Hyde Park Inn

4: Hyde Park

We couldn't see them from the street, but Hyde Park is FULL of ANGLES!

Think about what you know about some of these angles if they are in triangles, quadrilaterals, etc.

What about parallel lines?

5: Leaving London...

This is the route we took to get out of London and travel to Bletchley Park. We passed close to the Home of Cricket at Lord's.

Más sobre Leaving London...

6: Lord's Cricket Ground

The Home of Cricket!

The highest test match score here is 729 by Australia - the lowest is 42 by India. What is the range of test match scores on this ground?

7: The British Museum

Estimate how many triangles there were on the roof of the Great Hall. Looking at photographs will help.

8: The British Museum

Look at the front of the museum and remember the words we discussed...

Vertical, Cylinder, Sphere, Triangle, Cuboid, Parallel, Rectangle, Pattern...

Look for maths all around you - it's incredibly easy to spot!

9: The British Museum

The museum receives 6 million visitors every year. It is free to get in, but they suggest a £4 donation (we saw the boxes by the entrance).

If HALF of the visitors made the donation, how much money would the museum take in a year?

Más sobre The British Museum

10: The British Museum

There are 7 million objects in the collection here! If you spent just 5 seconds looking at each one, and didn't stop for food or sleep, how long would it take to see them all?

11: Wembley Stadium

Can you remember the number of toilets there are in the stadium?!

Más sobre Wembley Stadium

12: Wembley Stadium

The are 90,000 seats here - the 2nd biggest stadium in Europe. If the stadium was full and everyone paid £25 for a ticket, how much would the takings be?

13: Wembley Stadium

What are the THREE purposes of the Wembley Arch?

Más sobre Wembley Stadium

14: Wembley Stadium

There are 90,000 seats at Wembley and about 16,000 at Bloomfield Rd, Blackpool. How many times would Blackpool's ground fit inside Wembley?

Más sobre Wembley Stadium

15: Wembley Stadium

It cost £750million to build Wembley. If there are 60million people in the country, how much did we pay each?

Más sobre Wembley Stadium

16: London Eye

The London Eye has a diameter of 122m. What is the circumference of the wheel? What about its area?

Más sobre London Eye

17: Estate Agents

Remember the estate agents we looked in here? One of the apartments had a rent of £3500 per week. How much would this cost you a year? How does this compare to the average wage?

Más sobre Estate Agents

18: Oxford Street

Remember when I told you about Beyonce's recent spending spree of £90,000 in 90 minutes on Oxford Street? How much is this per minute? Per hour? Do you think you could manage this level of spending if you could afford to?!

Más sobre Oxford Street

19: London's Squares

You will see "Squares" all over London. It's pretty easy to see where the name comes from! Can you find any "Squares" that are not actually square?

Más sobre London's Squares

22: Bletchley Park

It is claimed that one of the reasons that Bletchley Park is here is because it is equidistant (halfway between) Oxford and Cambridge. This would allow the best mathematicians to be recruited.

Zoom out and find the Oxford and Cambridge markers. What do you think about this claim?

Más sobre Bletchley Park

23: Bletchley Railway Station

A German bomb fell near Bletchley Park in the Second World War and the government feared their secret centre had been found. However, the Germans were aiming for the train station and missed - they knew nothing about Bletchley Park until the 1980s!

Más sobre Bletchley Railway Station

24: Bletchley Park

10,000 people worked here in wartime. Can you remember what fraction of them were women? Why were there more women then men? Was it because the men were fighting in the war?

Más sobre Bletchley Park

25: Trafalgar Square

Time for some maths words again! Use Street View (or Map View!) and look for examples of...

Cuboid, Perpendicular, Vertical, Circle, Parallel, Cylinder, Cone

Can you find more?
Is Trafalgar Square accurately named?

Más sobre Trafalgar Square

26: Trafalgar Square

How far is it from Blackpool to London by road? RAC Route Finder will help you. Remember that all distances to London are measured from the plaque in Trafalgar Square!

Más sobre Trafalgar Square

27: Covent Garden

This was our meeting point in Covent Garden. Many of the shops had summer sales. If a shirt costing £35 had a 20% discount, how much would it now cost?

Más sobre Covent Garden
