I volontari e le volontarie contribuiranno al recupero e alla rinascita culturale dell'Aquila, città colpita dal disastroso terremoto del 2009.
In occasione dell’evento "L'AquilaFotoFestival", i partecipanti contribuiranno all’allestimento della mostra fotografica di Steve McCurry (http://stevemccurry.com) e saranno impegnati nell’accoglienza del pubblico durante le attività del festival.
Le attività del campo permetteranno ai volontari e alle volontarie di acquisire competenze sull'organizzazione e la gestione di un evento internazionale. Si alloggerà nell'ecovillaggio di Pescomaggiore, in una casa di paglia costruita gli scorsi anni attraverso campi di volontariato

Workcamp in Italy – L’AquilaFotoFestival
Start date 2012 – 05 -12 - End date 2012 - 05 -27 - L'Aquila (Italy)

The volunteers will contribute to the cultural revival of L’Aquila, a city partly destroyed by the earthquake of April 2009 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_L'Aquila_earthquake).
Volunteers will support “L’AquilaFotoFestival” event, helping the set up of Steve McCurry exhibition (www.stevemccurry.com) and in welcoming people during festival activities (music, movies and conferences).
Participants will learn how to organize an international event and set up a photographic exhibition. You will stay in an ecovillage in Pescomaggiore and you will accommodate in a strawbail’s house build just by volunteers.

1: Forum Solidarietà

The 'Festa Multiculturale' is a festival organised by Forum Solidarietà (now in its 16th year) taking place in Nevicati Park in Collecchio(near Parma). It stretches over two week-ends and includes debates on topics of immigration and419502_10150669373619873_629854872_91505 globalization, theatre shows, music, dances, stands by associations and NGOs and a restaurant serving local and food from the 23 different cuisines of communities of immigrants.The principal intent of the Festa is to build a bridge between the local population and the communities of immigrants in order to create harmony through the understanding of foreign cultures

Volunteers are expected to help prepare the park for the festival, assemble and dismount equipment, and help with the general organisation and running of the festival (kitchen, cleaning, waste management, backstage and exhibitions).

Volunteers will take part in seminars centred on development and globalization. 

Accomodation will be in dormitories provided by the organisation.

428091_216139428484657_157317507700183_4Descrizione: Lunalpina, is a very little Farm (800 m.) near a typical village of Valtellina, with a special historic, agricultural and archaeological interest. Lunalpina cooperate with local Associations to enhance the environment and the local traditions through agricultural education pathways for children and adults, even disables. Lunalpina has an Eco School, recently restored a previous school, which is a multipurpose center of hospitality and ecological and environmental education

Type of Work: The volunteers will be asked to recover the abandoned paths, haymaking, to do simple farm works, to take care of animals and to work to organize and achieve a public event for local population with creative workshops on topics related to environment and tradition.

Study Theme: During the camp, you'll have some presentations of cultural and environmental local associations.

Accommodation: Volunteers will be hosted in the renovated Eco School with bathrooms, showers and a equipped kitchen. Possibility of separate rooms for males and females. It is necessary to have a sleeping bag.

Language: English, Italian

Requirements: A positive attitude toward life in contact with nature, manual work and teamwork is required.

Approximate Location: Milan airports (Linate and Malpensa), Bergamo airport (Orio al Serio). Sondrio railway station (6 km).

Notes: The intercultural dimension will be especially valued and cared . Any kind of folk material (food, music, dress, etc..) from your country will be very welcome.

Descrizione: Granara is a 600 mt altitude rural village on Appenini mountains. It'is an experiment of sustainable development of an open community. Our activities concern solar and appropriate technologies, bio-architecture, holistic health care, environmental education, social activities, theatre and art workshops, nonviolence and promote the ecological awareness of inhabitants and hosts. Since 2001 Granara hosts a summer Theatre Festival that is now dedicated to ecology.

Type of Work: Work is dedicated to: -the cleaning and refreshing of structure and the external area of the passive solar house, that will serve as library and documentation center on ecology for the village -the cleaning and maintenance of paths in the woods -refreshing the circle of tables, the wooden stage inside the circus, sun showers and compost-toilets, preparing tables, rooms, external facilities -cooking and cleaning for the working group

Study Theme: Here will be study-evenings dedicated to themes related to ecology, appropriate technologies, the history of Granara and S.C.I., as well as evenings dedicated to the evaluation of the work and group building.

Accommodation: You will have accommodation in the rooms of the Guest-House. If you like to sleep outside you can bring your tent. There are normal toilets as well as compost (dry)-toilettes and solar showers. We will be using the kitchen and chow-room of the Guest House. We provide food and water (wine and beer are extra). There is also an open stage, a circus tent and a vast playground for free-time activities

Requirements: Granara is up on a hill, 600 mt over sea-level, and it might get cold in the evenings, so bring at least a sweater, some type of light raincoat,and a decent sleeping-bag. Do bring rough working clothes, shoes, and gloves. Bring a musical instrument if you play, and/or some of your favourite music.

Approximate Location: Granara is a 600 mt altitude rural village on Appenini mountains.There are regular trains from Parma (direction: La Spezia or Pontremoli), or from La Spezia. The train station is in Berceto.

Descrizione: This project is the result of the collaboration between a local group of SCI (SciSardegna) and two associations:"Casa per la pace" and "Nonviolent Movement". Both the associations work in the Casa per la Pace from many years promoting seminars and meetings on nonviolence and peace. Aim of the camp is open all these activities to the people of Ghilarza involving in the workcamp children and young people. Ghilarza is a small, ancient and beautiful town in the centre of Sardinia. It is near the lake Omodeo and has a population of about 5000 people and it is a very active cultural centre

Type of Work: The manual work involves some renovating work and painting inside the house and the removal of bricks and cement from the old brick factory around the courtyard. At the same time some game on the theme of nonviolence and peace will be carried out with the children of the town.

Study Theme: The study part in this camp will be very important as two trainers of the Nonviolent Movement will train the volunteers and the young peolple of Ghilarza on the theme of a nonviolent economy and the opposition to war and discrimination.

Accommodation: Volunteers will stay in the Casa per la Pace, a two storey house in the centre of Ghilarza. The house is fully equipped with bedrooms with bunk beds, two kitchens and three bathrooms.

Language: English, Italian

Requirements: Volunteers should be flexible and adaptable. Volunteers really interested in the nonviolent method and in working with children on this theme are welcome. Some knowledge of Italian would be of great help.

Approximate Location: Ghilarza is a small town in the centre of Sardinia and the 131 highway links it with the major ports fo Sardinia, Cagliari, Olbia and Porto Torres. The nearest airport is Cagliari- Elmas airport. .

5: Solidarietà con l'Africa



Descrizione: The work camp is organized from more than thirty years and its aim is to raise funds for the mission of the Friars Minor Capuchin of Emilia-Romagna in Dawro Konta (Ethiopia. Besides work, there are meetings concerning missionarity and the North-South relations, community life, free time, daily trips

Type of Work: Volunteers must set up and manage a big flea market for two weeks in the premises of the convent. The first days of the camp the volunteers have to set the different areas (furniture, clothing, bikes, books, electrical equipment, miscellaneous, etc.), then there will be the selling to the public. Concerning community life, volunteers have only to keep cleaned the rooms (no preparing meals). Some volunteers of Imola will organize the work shifts. The work is demanded FOR ALL VOLOUNTEERS from 9:00 to 12:30 and from 14:30 to 18:30.

Study Theme: During the camp there will be at least two educational meetings. Also, there will be a meeting relating the mission of the friars in Ethiopia. At the meetings there will be volunteers who are studying English at university and they will translate into English.

Accommodation: Board and lodging are free. Boys and girls sleep in separate rooms of 50-60 people and equipped with beds. You need to bring sheets and the need for personal hygiene. It is requested the respect of time table.

Language: The main language of the camp is Italian but those who English may participate. In this case some activities may be more difficult and during the opening of the market they can’t sell because the costumers speak Italian only.

Descrizione: The cooperative "Panta Rei" operates providing services to family type communities that host people with intellectual disabilities. The objective is the implementation of a path of independence and social integration.The communities are located in the beautiful countryside, on the hills of Monterroso and near the major cities of Turin, Asti and Casale.

Type of Work: The volunteers will be involved in the daily activities of the community such as: - Maintenance works - manual workshops - activities in the near farms harvesting fruits and vegetables.

Study Theme: Apart from the opportunity of knowing deeply the functioning of a community dealing with disabled persons, the volunteers will also learn how to establish relations with them and also through the exchanges will learn many aspects of the Italian culture, the local history and the language.

Accommodation: The group of volunteers will be hosted inside the house of the community.

Language: English

Requirements: Animation and adaptation! Also some manual work will be required.

Descrizione: The project is relative to summer events inside the public park of S.Maria della Pietà in Rome. The “Ex Lavanderia” association was born in 2005 to promote public, cultural and social use of the “Ex Manicomio” (psychiatric clinic) of Rome. The association’s history is linked to the social movement that led to the law n. 180 (in 1978) that definitely forbid the methods of imprisonment formerly used in the “Manicomio” as an curing approach to mental disorder.

Type of Work: The aim will be to clean up and fix the area of public park around the “Ex Lavanderia”, and to rearrange theatre room and music room will be held a cultural event with music and theater to present work to the public.

Study Theme: The study section will be devoted to the history of movement that in the seventies fought to obtain the abolition of “manicomi” and the law 180, the first law in the world that definitely forbid the detention of the mental sick in “manicomi”. It will be possible to meet the protagonists of that movement and to visit the "mental museum"

Accommodation: Indoor (one large room) rustic accommodation with sleeping-bags and camping mattresses. It will also be possible to get hammocks anchors.
4 bathrooms and hot douches.

Requirements: It is convenient but not essential to have abilities in: gardening, woodwork, litle masonry-work

Descrizione: ARTEMISTA is a non-profit agency that deals with artistic, cultural, environmental and social educational projects. Artemista is established within the Cascina Castello, an agricultural building of XVIII century but some parts date back to before the X. This ancient agricultural building is going to be restored with preservation and rehabilitation works, with a specific efficient energy plan that includes photovoltaics. The restored building will include a hostel and a cultural center of exhibition and artistic production.

Type of Work: participation in the final phase of renovation and restoration works of Cascina Castello. We willl do work of recovery and reuse of old building materials such as brick Lombard. We will do treatments for cleaning and protective painting wood materials of the roof trusses, working on scaffolding inside the building.

Study Theme: We will investigate more thoroughly on rural architecture and restructuring works, compatible with historic buildings, concerning energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy, also referring to the analysis of Cascina Castello project. We’ll organize excursions on the environs and drama, music and comics activities.

Accommodation: an area for tents will be prepared in the garden of the castle, near the farmhouse. Volunteers have to bring a tent, mattress and sleeping bag. Please bring them with you, it's necessary! The cleaning of common areas and cooking will be organized on turns. A bathroom in the house of the organizers will be available for volunteers
