More Anza Borrego Hiking This is the way to get to the mud palisades. You need an higher clearance car with AWD. The "Road" is one of the more easy one to drive and one of the most scenic. The "Road" follows the Fish canyon (wash) and may be a bit sandy on parts of the "road". There are no serious obstacles on this "road", some small rocks and lots of sand. Normally any SUV with AWD should be able to make it to the end. Exit at the sign Fish creek campground. Follow the road into the canyon past the campground on your left. At the signed Wind Caves take the left wash into the main Fish Creek Canyon Wash. Shortly there after you see the Elephant knees to your left (signed). At the two signed crossings of the Loop Wash Road, keep left. (= follow the main wash) Keep in the main wash at the Diablo crossing. (Don't take this one, you are close to the dropoff) Keep in the main wash as the Sandstone Canyon goes to the left. The next crossing is the Olla Wash to the left. The sign is a couple of Yards into the canyon. Park here for a short hike to the Mud Palisades. Or drive all the way. Hike to the Mud Palisades Driving time: Just over one hour, one way.
