0: Moumoukai Pine Forest

Open access pine forest with plenty of tracks (some of them for mountain bikes) that you can use to go deep into the forest then head off track if you want peace and quiet. Car access and plenty of what seems like safe parking.
I have never crossed paths with anyone else even on the weekends, although I keep to the overgrown tracks for that reason.
Plenty of rabbits and possums, no water that I have found so far. Can be exposed to northerlys and easterlys if you are on a ridge, other wise it is reasonably sheltered.
No sure what the rules are but I have lit small fires in winter, you'd have to be VERY careful in summer however the place is one big pine needle tinderbox.
Plenty of fatwood in old stumps.

1: Whitford Forest parameter

A private production forest. Looked great from outside but I didn't have a permit and the signs said there were cameras and trespassers would be prosecuted.
I got no answer on a Saturday morning but the signs say to call for a permit

2: Great little

A great little pine forest on the edge of what first appears to be a small desert, quite interesting.

Southwest there is a lake that has fish in it, south there is a larger pine forest with what looked like some kind of military training facility. I kept my distance.

5: Waiuku Forest Perimeter

This production pine forest is open to the public from 7am to 6pm. In the centre is an iron sands mine connected to the nearby steelmill, although there is no noise and minimal activity in the forest itself. For more details about the forest including a trail map that I recommend using, visit this website.
Its quite a cool place to explore with lots of different terrain. Fires are banned and overnight stays are a no no but its definitely worthy of a day trip.

7: Overgrown Quarry Corner

This small area seems to be left over from the nearby quarry real estate development. Who knows how long it will be until its cleared but its pretty wild and hidden from street view.
Good to explore, no signs or fences that I could see.

8: Whatipu Caves

A 30min walk from the carpark are some massive cathedral caves that provide a large group with shelter from the rain. The sandy floor is great for a small fire and a small tent or shelter for warmth.
Great spot

14: Pararaha Campsite

Has a tent campsite, toillets, a sheltered gazebo for cooking and eating and sleeping in a pinch. River nearby with possible fish (I had no luck!)
Well maintained wooden walkway towards the beach/swamp (pararaha valley track), fantastic view with cliffs all around. Very Jurassic Park!

15: Mini desert?!?!

Surrounded by forest, farmland and a lake, is a huge expanse of black sand dunes! Very surreal
