Continuing the tradition of marking and annotating the more memorable places we go when we explore a city. Bear in mind that these are only the places I could find actual addresses for. Google Maps is only so useful in Beijing. And as for stuff in the hutong, most of that you just have to strike out on your own and discover.

Lugares de interés (POIs) del Mapa

0: N.E.Courtyard Hotel

Our hotel in the hutong. Kind of hostel-like, but private rooms, and cheap.

Más sobre N.E.Courtyard Hotel

1: Tiananmen Square

You know what it is. It's big.

Más sobre Tiananmen Square

2: Bird Nest National Stadium

Very little shade here.

Más sobre Bird Nest National Stadium

3: CCTV Headquarters

Had a large construction wall around it at the time, but visible from the subway stop. It's the pants!

Más sobre CCTV Headquarters

4: Temple of Heaven Park

A little crowded, but the double pavilion is very nice and peaceful.

Más sobre Temple of Heaven Park

5: Hongqiao Market ?Cemen?

Bought some cell phones here. A good place to bargain on goods, if you are into that sort of thing.

Más sobre Hongqiao Market ?Cemen?

6: Design Museum

I don't think this place actually exists. I walked all around the block where it was supposed to be, and couldn't find it anywhere. Also, couldn't find a website.

Más sobre Design Museum

7: China Beijing Dong Cheng Qu Guang Chang Dong Ce Lu National Museum of China

The National Museum, at Tienanmen Square. It is also big. See it for the lobby, if not for the sparse exhibits.

8: Dashilan St

A cool market street, leading west out of the more tourist market of Qianmen St in "Old Beijing". Bought some SIM cards here.

Más sobre Dashilan St

9: Beijing Zoo, Xicheng, Beijing, China, 100044

We went to see the pandas, and were horribly depressed. I had thought, not sure why, that the conditions were supposed to be good.

10: Iberia Center for Contemporary Art

Main public museum at 798 Art District. Kind of small.

Más sobre Iberia Center for Contemporary Art

11: Military Museum of Chinese People's Revolution

Didn't go inside because the lines were too long.

Más sobre Military Museum of Chinese People's Revolution

12: 798 Art Zone

Famous, and now official, modern art district. Real touristed out, but many of the original factor buildings from the 50s are still there.

Más sobre 798 Art Zone

13: Art Mia Foundation

Didn't make it out to Caochangdicun, but these are supposed to be good galleries.

Más sobre Art Mia Foundation

14: Pékin Fine Arts / ??????

Another unvisited gallery in Caochangdicun.

Más sobre Pékin Fine Arts / ??????

15: Three Shadows Photography Art Centre

And one more.

Más sobre Three Shadows Photography Art Centre

16: Joy City

Large, luxury mall. 12 floors! Must be seen to be believed.

Más sobre Joy City

17: Panjiayuan Second-hand Market

The antique market. Nothing that unique, but its all antique. Except for the stuff that's not.

Más sobre Panjiayuan Second-hand Market

18: Donghuamen Food Court Night Market

Overhyped. Mostly exists for tourists that want to eat snake or scorpions. I had a BBQ'ed squid, and I've definitely had better. Just go eat skewers in a hutong instead.

Más sobre Donghuamen Food Court Night Market

19: South Luogu Alley

We referred to it as the "St. Marks Place" of Beijng. If you want an army style shoulder bag with Mao's face on it, here's your place.

Más sobre South Luogu Alley

20: Baihe Vegetarian Restaurant

Excellent Buddhist restaurant. A little more expensive (by Beijing standards) and delicious.

Más sobre Baihe Vegetarian Restaurant

21: Huguosi Snack

Good food, plain and simple.

Más sobre Huguosi Snack

22: Beijing Temple of Confucius

I didn't go in, as it was packed with people. But it looks pretty, and is surrounded by nice hutongs.

Más sobre Beijing Temple of Confucius

23: The China Millennium Monument

A very strange museum is inside the monument, mostly consisting of 3D animations showing how futuristic Beijing is. China!

Más sobre The China Millennium Monument

24: Today Art Museum

A pretty excellent contemporary art museum. They have a huge space.

Más sobre Today Art Museum

25: Laitai Flower Street

Didn't make it here, but it is supposed to be the place to go for fresh and fake flowers.

Más sobre Laitai Flower Street

26: Mao Mao Chong

An expat bar, with the "best pizzas in Beijing". I think their drinks are much better. Expat prices.

Más sobre Mao Mao Chong

27: Waiting for Godot Coffee

I'd say this place is half-expat. They're always showing odd films in here. A comfortable place to sit and use the internet. Also, the notebook store, called "Concertino", on the outside of the coffee shop is awesome.

Más sobre Waiting for Godot Coffee

28: Sanlian Taofen Books Zhongxin

A nice book store, though almost everything is in Chinese. (I know, right?)

Más sobre Sanlian Taofen Books Zhongxin

29: Olympics Forest Park

The best part of the Olympic Complex. I hung out in the small opera forest. The cicadas were louder than traffic on a freeway.

Más sobre Olympics Forest Park

30: What Bar

A dive of a music bar, in the classic tradition. Supposedly they have good shows. They do have cheap beer.

Más sobre What Bar

31: Treescape Cafe

An expat cafe. Shady, with internet, and excellent sandwiches, if you miss sandwiches.

Más sobre Treescape Cafe

32: National Gallery

A typical Chinese public museum, and so a little meh. But its free!

Más sobre National Gallery

33: Beijing Museum of Tap Water

Well, I was excited to go here, but we got lost and couldn't find it. Pretty sure it does exist, though.

Más sobre Beijing Museum of Tap Water

34: Jindingxuan Restaurant

A three-story restaurant. The name means "Golden Tripod Attic". So there you go. When the waiter tries to keep you from ordering the pepper clams because you're a Westerner and it's too spicy, listen to him.

Más sobre Jindingxuan Restaurant

35: China Science and Technology Museum

The old Science and Technology Museum. Don't go here! It's not open anymore.

Más sobre China Science and Technology Museum

36: China Science and Technology Museum

The new Science and Technology Museum. Go here! I wanted to, but ran out of time.

Más sobre China Science and Technology Museum

37: The Ming Dynasty Wall Relics Park of Beijing

Part of the old wall of the city. Notable for how the city stretches out endless on both sides. Hard to believe this was once the edge of something.

Más sobre The Ming Dynasty Wall Relics Park of Beijing

38: Liu's Family And Restaurant

An awesome restaurant tucked back at the end of an alley. This is where the shrimp cupcake dumplings with sprinkles came from.

Más sobre Liu's Family And Restaurant

39: Penghao Theatre

Went to go see an experimental theater piece here. A pretty cool venue, with a coffee shop attached.

Más sobre Penghao Theatre

40: Si if Bar

An interestingly decorated bar.

Más sobre Si if Bar

41: Hot Cat Club

A bar with live music. A nice big place, with a patio.

Más sobre Hot Cat Club

42: Xiangmanlou

One of the better places to get duck. And indeed, it was delicious.
