Wildebeest migration map

The calving season is now well underway, and the massive herds of wildebeest will start giving birth to several hundred thousand calves. Read more!

The Migration slowly commences its trek northwest in search of food, following the long rains across the central Serengeti plains towards the Western Corridor and the Grumeti River. The Western Corridor provides perfect grazing conditions for the herds after the rains, and they happily graze on the lush grasses. Read more!

 

 

 

The long rains soon end and the herds move on in a staggered fashion — some departing sooner than others, until they eventually merge back into one impressive mega-herd. Read more!

 

The world famous Gwmeti River crossings generally take place in June and the large herds gather in the Western Corridor before heading north towards Kenya’s Masai Mara. June also brings about the wildebeest breeding season. Read more!

 

In July, the land dries out, and the herds wander in seardi of greener pastures all over the northern Serengeti. Some will arrive at the Mara River and will have to brave a terrifying crossing to reach the grasses of the Masai Mara. Read more!

Many of the animals will cross the Mara River this month; however some will cross backwards and forwards many times in their continual search for the best possible grazing. Read more!

As the short rains begin in northern Tanzania, the bulk of the Migration begins to move south returning to the Klein’s Camp and Lobo region of the Serengeti. Read more!
