This is what I consider my home when it comes to Busking. Their are 4 amazing spots which are The Buttermarket, Taigh Corner, Cafe Rouge and The Old Library. Also very warm busking community displaying a wide range of talents. The Mecca of Busking in the Uk a must go to.

1: Oxford

Licensing: Unsure. Local buskers say just go for it, and the police have never given us any trouble, but council officials can apparently charge you a lot for busking without a licence.
Spots: Limited area. Cornmarket Street is your best bet, but it's small, and certain areas are reserved for Big Issue sellers.
Competition: On a busy day, a lot. A lot of big acts and shows come through. It can be very tough, and apparently gets crazy busy in the summer.

2: Brighton

Busked here a couple of time now not licensing and found the Police very friendly of buskers. Lacking a high street without cars so spots are always lacking the foot volume you would expect for such a big city. Well worth going to. Stefan Mullard

3: Ottawa

Brilliant busking here. Completely unlicensed, and no trouble at all. Friendly people, no trouble from authorities or other musicians. Enough musicians for it not to be boring, but no harsh competition. A fair few good spots as well, notably Spark Street and other areas downtown. The Byward Market is licensed, and apparently relatively strictly enforced during the day, but after about 7pm it's apparently fine.

4: Hastings

Went here around Christmas time and it was fantastic only had 5 hours before having to go to dinner and paid for dinner and walk away with pockets full of notes and coins. Want to go back again soon. No License, Police friendly and quite a few good spots

5: Folkestone

Have busked hear twice and found it hard both times maybe due to the weather wasn't that nice but no licence needed and police were friendly. There looks::text like there are quite a few spots up the highstreet.

Not the best place for busking - they have quite a strict licensing scheme, and the police can be quite up on it. Other times, though, we've been fine. Also the first place I ever busked alone, so there's a fun little tidbit.

7: Kingston

Has an absolutely brilliant buskers' festival in the summer. Outside of that, however, there is a licensing scheme, and the police can give you trouble for it. You can get lucky, though, so by all means give it a go. Probably only worth the license if you live here or very near.

8: Belleville

Without wanting to say anything bad about Belleville, this town is where dreams go to die. In addition to holding the dubious distinction of being the 'murder capital' of Ontario, it just doesn't have a lot by way of spots, community, or even just people. That said, there is a great venue called 'The Studio at 318', with some wonderful staff. All it lacks is an audience.

9: South Bank, London

Currently the best place to start when it comes to busking in London. As yet completely unlicensed from the London Eye to the flagpole. Tough competition and a real dog-eat-dog attitude from other buskers. They're also changing the licensing laws, with licensing being brought in from mid-May. This post will be edited as and when that gets sorted out.

10: Cirencester

Good enough for busking - fine money, and no hassle for police or anyone else. People seemed a little bemused to see buskers - I guess it's not a large part of the culture. A few okay spots, though none that really jump out, as there's not really a large high street / downtown area.
