Eleven new bubble sites have been found in inundated swampland west of an 8.5-acre sinkhole in northern Assumption Parish, including a frothing spot dubbed the “mother of all bubble sites,” officials said Tuesday.
Scientists think the Houston-based company’s salt cavern in the Napoleonville Dome failed deep underground, causing the sinkhole and unleashing oil and natural gas from formations along the salt dome face. That free gas is thought to be surfacing through many bubble sites and the sinkhole.
Boudreaux said the frothing site, which is about 1,100 feet west of the sinkhole, is in an area regularly covered with water, although the water depth has increased recently to about 5 feet.

Harrisburg Public Works crews are backfilling a sinkhole that swallowed the rear wheels of a 6-ton city trash truck Monday on North Fourth Street near Maclay Street.
As drivers pass over steel plates on Harrisburg streets, they are driving over what essentially are sinkholes, said Kevin Hagerich, the city's director of public works.
Sinkholes are not new to Harrisburg — it's just the two that collapsed into the 2100 block of North Fourth Street on Monday are the biggest in the city.
Forty steel plates cover smaller sinkholes in Harrisburg, Hagerich said.

The sinkhole appeared this week on the grounds of a retail development called "Oxford Commons," located on Leon Smith Parkway at I-20.
The site was once part of the old antebellum "Davis Farm" and archaeologists say it was a Native American village before that.
The sinkhole, located several hundred feet from the Publix site, was discovered in late November, said Oxford councilman Mike Henderson.

I'm sure they will. I grew up on the land that joins the Davis farm. I couldn't believe they were going to put a Publix and other stores in that particular location. I have seen that area under 4-5 feet of water many, many times. It's a bad flood area and there are many underground springs. It's not at all a suitable place for large buildings.
