If you::text like a good old plate of fish and chips in a cafe then try this. Popular, speedy service, jumbo sized haddock or you can take away. Lovely individual shops, wine merchant and other good cafes in Bridge of Allan. We::text like to visit Bridge of Allan on our way back to Briar Cottages in Lochearnhead when we have been in Stirling as they are pretty much next door to each other, about 23 miles away.

Food for discerning foodies 11 miles from Briar cottages Loch Earn. Very tasteful old property, excellent service, crisp table cloths and sparkling glasses. First class chef Ross Miller. Creative and tasty work of art on a plate. £60 per head for taster menu around £28 for lunch. A treat for special occasions or for those that adore creative cuisine and a chef with individual flair. Make for Killin, 7 miles and then turn right at the falls of Dochart Pub going a few miles on the North side of the Tay

2: Auchingarrich Tea Room, near Comrie

Fabulous tea room owned and run by a chef, with stunning views over Strathyre, situated within Auchingarrich Wildlife Park near Comrie, 14 miles from Briar Cottages self catering Lochearnhead. You can have snacks, lunch and fabulous home made cakes, tea and coffee without visiting the animal park though you would be missing a very special place with fascinating animals. Excellent play park for kids within view of the cafe.

3: Barley Bree Restaurant , Muthill

A great find. French chef producing lovely authentic flavours. Rustic tables and chairs, parking at the back of the building, friendly customer service orientated staff . Word has got out and so Saturdays get very busy in the main season. Try them out of season or midweek for lunch. 4: Byre Inn, Brig O Turk

Lovely stone pub restaurant with a difference. Warm and cosy with a fire by the bar which offers board games and books. The easy listening music is pleasant and calming on arrival. Booking is recommended for the informal cosy candlelit dining area. The lighting has been well thought out. Soups are excellent. The menu is tasty with some unusual combinations of food, prepared fresh from order. In the winter, fire lit torches lead the way to the front door. Popular with our guests in the comment book. 5: Callander Meadows

Ex Gleneagles chefs. Scottish cuisine with a French twist.  Excellent food. Great value at lunchtime. Neat space with 6 or 7 tables in 2 rooms. Lovely atmosphere. 6: Clachan Cottage Hotel

The hotel bedrooms were refurbished in 2012. In 2013 the bar and restaurant were given a complete design makeover. The bar has a wood burner in the centre of the room splitting the games area and juke box from the lounge serving bar meals. A seperate restaurant has been created to accommodate guests and visitors with families who prefer a more intimate dining experience away from the bar. Thumbs up from guests.

8: Cromlix House restaurant, near Dunblane

Sadly this closed down last year.  The good news is that tennis super star Andy Murray has bought it so watch this space  (Previously - old fashioned elegance with the charming surroundings of a fine country mansion in its own grounds.  Fine menu lunch or dinner or try aternoon tea in the lounge with large windows looking into the garden. Kinbuck is near Dunblane, 15 miles from Briar Cottages, Perthshire.

9: Deils Cauldron, Comrie

Excellent value at lunchtime. Owned and run by a husband and wife team. 3 course set menu or light bite options. Chicken liver pate to die for. Sweet and savoury pancakes a speciality. Chuncky hand cut chips are lovely. You will be served in a cosy restaurant with stone walls and a fire giving it the feel of a comfy bothy. Fine dining in the main restaurant in the evening. NB: There is a petanque ring in the beer . Booking recommended. Turn left out of Briar Cottages, Lochearnhead and follow the A85 through St Filans to the village of Comrie, 12 mile.

10: Gloagburn Farmshop Cafe, near Perth

Uses fresh farm produce.A great stop on the way to or from Perth.Usually busy at lunchtime however they do have plenty of tables and we have never had to wait long. Excellent Scottish produce and gifts in the shop. A great selection of cakes and a good wholesome menu that uses fresh farm produce. 30 miles from Briar cottages self catering in Lochearnhead. Follow the A85 towards Perth.

11: Lade Inn, Kilmahog

Known for its real ale, The Lade Inn serves its own brew in a choice of different strengths to suit your pallet. They run a Real Ale shop on site where you can buy just about every bottle of ale that is worth drinking made with different ingredients::text like heather and whisky. Chef prepared tasty food. Owned and run by Chef Robert and wife Amanda. We receive excellent feedback from guests at Little Briar our self catering holiday cottage Lochearnhead. The hotel is 200m from the garden gates. We have eaten there many times ourselves and keep going back to try new dishes. We love the home made local venison and redcurrant pie and the chefs beer batter recipe fish and chips. Good choice on the regular menus with a specials board. Opt for the bar or the dining room with white table cloths, warmed rolls and jugs of water. Plenty of vegetables or fresh salad served with main courses. Tasty vegetarian options too. In the winter Robert advertises the occasional Chinese or Indian all you can eat buffet night. Excellent food, great value,family run, warm and friendly, great views of Loch Earn from the bar and dining room.

13: Mhor Bread and tea room Callander

Baking smells are a real tease here. You can pop in to the bakery shop for tear and share breads with various ingredients, pies, cakes and biscuits or turn right into the tea room for lunch, morning or afternoon tea. One guest at Briar cottages Lochearnhead claims that she had the best piece of cheesecake ever. It is 14 miles from Lochearnhead to Callander and worth the drive or bus trip even for a sniff in the shop.

14: Mhor Fish, Callander

You probably wont get better fish and chips than MHOR fish in Callander. Served in a card box in generous protions, the fish is not battered until you ask for it. So, it is never lying around. They serve white fleshy fresh haddock in tasty batter. Very tasty. There are other traditional and unusual choices on the menu with home made mayo, mushy peas and other side dishes.My mouth is watering as I type . We are more than happy to make this our local chippy 14 miles from Briar Cottage Lochearnhead and guests have been glad of the tip. You can also go to the restaurant attached to the shop. It is more than a cafe, this is a fish restaurant where you can choose your fish from the selection lovingly displayed on a spray of crushed ice .

17: Old Library Tea Room, Balquhidder,

Cakes to die for. Sadly it only opens April to October. Wholefood lunches are excellent; soups, quiche, ratatouille, scones, cakes. tray bakes mmmmmm. I had a cake that was::text like carrot cake except made with beetroot with a pretty purple topping made using brambles and berry's. There were pastachio's in the cake and flowers in the topping. Fabulous. Run by the owners of the Mhor businesses (Monachyle Mhor, Mhor Bread and Mhor Fish) The Library Tea room can be found between Balquhidder Church and the village Hall. The quircky seats and tables with a mish mash of non matching crockery ads to the charm.. I wish they would open a fruit, veg and butcher shop too!. Only 5 miles from Briar holiday cottages Lochearnhead.

18: Old Smiddy Bistro and Coffee shop, Killin

Bistro restaurant and cafe. Freshly prepared food in an old smiddy with a contemperary interior. Fresh white walls and stone floor with wooden tables and chairs. Lovely pasta's and salads in summer . Good Latte's, well presented cakes and you can even pop in for an ice cream cone. Limited outdoor seating in summer.  Outdoor parking for a few cars though there is a car park not far along in the village.  Killin is just 7 miles from our Perthshire holiday cottages in Lochearnhead.

19: Roman Camp Hotel, Callander

My favourite time is Christmas at the Roman Camp. Worth paying for a first class lunch to experience the magic of Christmas. The lounge, library and dining rooms are full of Christmas trees, decor and the warmth from the various fire places. Really charming. If you are unsure, go and have a coffee and short bread by the fire and lap up the atmosphere. 14 miles from Briar self catering cottages Lochearnhead

Two AA rosettes. Enjoy Contemporary Scottish cuisine or informal bar meals. Stunning views over Loch Earn. Find the Four Seasons bar and restaurants by following Loch Earn from Briar Cottages Lochearnhead, 6 miles along the A85. Afternoon tea is excellent value. Plump moist sandwiches, scones, shortbread, fruit cake and copings of tea and coffee served in style with stunning views over Loch Earn.

21: The Royal Hotel Comrie

Spoilt for choice between bar, lounge bar, residents lounge, bistro and restaurant. An elegant hotel with rustic country charm full of antiques, prints and books. Always fresh and clean. We love to drop in during winter and sit near to the fire with a whisky or coffee and shortbread and read the magazines and papers in one of the seats or sofas. Charming dining room and tasty pub and bistro food. Comrie is 12 miles from our Scottish holiday cottages in Lochearnhead. Make for the cross roads in the centre of the village

22: A Room In The Town, Edinburgh

Guests at Briar Cottages Lochearnhead do visit Edinburgh. It is an easy 60 miles by car or park at Stirling train station for £3.50 all day and get the train into Waverley Sation. Book lunch at Room in the Town in Heriot Row. The food is great. You always get a lovely basket of bread a fresh plate of vegetables, the wooden tables chair and floor add character and the staff are lovely. The chefs make good use of exciting ingredients with hand written menu's for the week. You can bring your own bottle of wine too for a modest corkage charge of a couple of pounds. I have eaten there many times over 7 years and have never seen the same dish on the menu's twice. I love there descriptions and the way that they mix flavours and foods. Good vegetarian options too. Leave room for the banoffi Pie!
