Here you'll find decent Indian food (Copper Pot), pizza, one of the four good book stores in town (A Novel Idea), as well as a good coffee shop Africafe.
The Sea Cliff hotel is ok for dinner or a drink sometimes.

Go here to get tickets for the ferry to Zanzibar - Azam (the big blue, air conditioned building) is generally the best. Don't let anyone hassle you about a ticket until you are in the building.

EDIT - it has now moved to Oyser Bay Shoppign centre - now less relaxed and hot. Food is still good.
Really nice, relaxed place for lunches - good for sandwiches, coffee, etc. Also has a store which sells some arts and crafts.
