Castles We Love

@EHDovercastle is the castle I love the most, with a Roman Pharos, Hellfire Corner, a vista to die for & oodles to explore!

1. Kenilworth, for it's grandeur and regal magnificence. And for the pub over the road...

2. Kenilworth. Beautiful Place, great gardens and very fond childhood memories. Plus so much awesome history.

Bonaguil Castle in southern France. Amazing tower, great cellars dug into the caves, and son et lumiere shows.

Got taken there on a Sixth form trip. A total wreck of a place, but it was the first time I ever got the thought that "these stones have seen Henry VIII, Oliver Cromwell, both World Wars and a lot of other history". I have had that thought since about other places, but that was the first time....

Castlenaud on the Dordogne in France, an imposing fortress used as late as the Second World War by the Resistance.

Domfront, Normandy. Stunning views from substantial remains of donjon, chapel and defences sited on top of a hill.

Allington, Kent. Small, perfect castle on the Medway. First known private tourney field and oldest known dovecotes in UK.

Aberystwyth - part of Ed I's ring of steel in Wales. Huge concentric castle built by George of St James, sadly ruinous now.

Hardknott pass Roman fort. So bleak and exposed. Must have been::text like a posting to the eastern front :)

Definitely Ludlow, site of one of the battles of the first real English Civil War (Stephen!).

...Also Castle Rising :D

Raby castle, drove passed it on the way to Barnard Castle and it looked enormous. Arundel castle looks really imposing from the train high over the river valley.
