Jesus Obrero / Jesus the Worker Catholic Church
881 Nuna Ave.
Sunday, March 3rd
All are welcome to join marchers for Catholic mass at 9:00 am at Jesus the Worker / Jesus Obrero Catholic Church. At 10:15, join us outside the church to participate in a final blessing of the marchers before their first steps, to hear speeches from CIW members about to take off on foot for two weeks. Or, join us at 11:00 for our first steps of the march!
Stand with the marchers for the first protest of the two-week march at 2:45 pm!
In the afternoon, join marchers for a spirited protest at the Publix at 41 & 301 in Sarasota; the same Publix whose opening was greeted by over 250 Fair Food supporters just over a year ago!
The march's exciting Saturday in Sarasota will culminate with a community event on the bayfront of the New College of Florida campus. Welcomed by a strong group of student allies, marchers will join members of the New College and broader Sarasota community for a dinner and evening of music and community theater as the sun sets on the bay.
End of Saturday, March 9th
Beginning of Sunday, March 10th
On Sunday evening, marchers and the community will gather at Bradenton's brand-new, waterfront Riverwalk for an evening of education and community building. At the outdoor Mosaic Ampitheather, the community can enjoy music by the many musicians who will be joining the march, and presentations by CIW members about their trek thus far and the message of the historic New Day taking root in the Florida tomato fields today.
End Sunday, March 10th
Start Monday, March 11th
Beth-El Farmworker Ministry, a ministry of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) well-known and supported across Florida, has been one of the most supportive long-time allies to the CIW, opening its doors to the CIW on their March for Dignity, Dialogue, and a Fair Wage in 2000, the Pilgrimage to Publix in 2011, and many other occasions. Beth-El will generously open its doors (and kitchen) to feed and house the entire march on Monday and Tuesday evenings! Tuesday evening will be especially moving as marchers will join together with workers from Wimauma for a service at their community center.
