Join us on Saturday, September 28th for the Corporate Council Day of Service and have fun while contributing to the health of local nature. We are fortunate to have access to a large amount of open space and natural areas in our region, but the lands, waters, and wildlife — which provide us with recreation opportunities, clean air and water, and so much more — need our help!For more information and to register, visit www.chicagowilderness.org/dayofservice.Please note that unless otherwise noted, all actitivies will take place from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Come out to Deer Grove to help restore remnant oak woods. Located in Palatine, volunteers will spend the morning removing invasive brush from the area. Children ages 5 to 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Volunteers are invited to build new walking paths at Eden Place. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Situated along the Chicago River, Gompers Park gives volunteers a chance to mulch, weed and cleanup in a wetland area. Children 10 and older are welcome, accompanied by a parent.

3: The Grove

Glenview Park District

The Grove is a beautiful oak savanna nature preserve and historic site. Attendees will have a chance to participate in seed collection and brush removal. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

4: McCormick Woods

Forest Preserve District of Cook County
NE corner, 1st Ave. & 31st St., Riverside

In this open woodland, volunteers will have the opportunity to cut brush, participate in controlled burns, clean up and observe nature. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

5: North Pond Nature Sanctuary

Lincoln Park Conservatory
2610 N. Cannon Drive, Chicago

10:00 am to 12:00 pm

Along this wildflower-ringed urban pond, volunteers will mulch trees, spread wildflower seed, remove invasive species and pick up litter. Children 10 and older are welcome.

6: Orland Grassland

Forest Preserve District of Cook County

Orland Grassland boasts 960 rolling acres of upland prairie, wetlands, ponds, shrublands and oak savannas. Volunteers will partake in prairie restoration including seed collecting and invasive plant control. Children 8 years and older are welcome, if accompanied by an adult.

Volunteers are welcome to come remove woody invasive species in this oak-hickory woodland savanna. Volunteers must be 16 years or older.

Westchester's original prairie needs volunteers to assist with brush removal and seed collection and distribution. Children 14 years and older are welcome.

Originally created for the 1893 World's Colombian Exposition, the island is now a natural area. Volunteers will spend their time removing invasive plants. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

10: Blackwell County Forest Preserve

Saturday, September 28, 8:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Forest Preserve District of DuPage County
Mack Road, West Chicago

The Blackwell Native Plant Nursery has 60- plus native species from woodlands, wetlands and prairie habitats. Volunteers will help this Nursery by collecting seeds. Children 12 and older must be accompanied by an adult.

11: Maple Grove Forest Preserve

Forest Preserve District of  DuPage County
Maple Ave. & Plymouth St., Downers Grove

Volunteers are invited for seed collecting and brush cutting in this large remnant maple forest. Children ages 8 to 10 must have at least one adult for every two children. Children ages 11 to 18 must have one adult for every 8 children.

12: Easton Park

Volunteers can help redesign Easton Park by planting tree seedlings and clearing wooded areas. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

13: Fabyan Forest Preserve

Rte 25 just north of Fabyan Rd., Geneva

Next to the Fox River and situated near the Fabyan Windmill, the Fabyan Forest Preserve will have volunteers cutting and removing buckthorn and honeysuckle from the oak woodland. Children 10 and older are welcome.

14: Hickory Knolls Natural Area

Enjoy a beautiful morning in one of Illinois' nature reserves! Volunteers will have a chance to collect seeds at Hickory Knolls. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Rollins Savanna is the largest contiguous forest in Lake County. Day of Service volunteers will collect seeds. Children 10 years and older are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult.

Loyola University Retreat & Ecological Campus

Volunteers have a chance to enjoy the beautiful moraines of McHenry County at Loyola University's ecological campus. With lunch provided, volunteers will work to control and clear invasive species. Children 14 and older welcome.
