Fresh café is a health food restaurant, and does not specifically use local food.
In the summer however, Fresh café gets a lot of its ingredients from Nu Leaf, a local grocery store focused on stocking as much local food as possible (see map).

Heartland Quality Foods has its roots deep in the Kamloops local food movement. It began as a co-operative when, according to its website, 12 farmers wanted a better way to distribute their products.
It became a box scheme to be delivered to customers, eventually growing to include not only produce but cheese, milk and meats.
Heartland Quality Foods has now evolved to share a storefront with Black Creek Ranch, which is owned by the First Nations Agriculture Authority.
The store's commitment to local food is explicit and passionate.

Nu Leaf is a new player on the local food scene in Kamloops. Having opened Sept. 2011, on Nu Leaf's website co-owner Herman Hothi says, ”We’re trying to bring in as much local stuff as we can, produce as well as dry goods.
”We do lots of work with local farms and local companies.”
Also, Herman said his family has been farming at its Heffley property for more than 20 years. Now they are using their knowledge of local produce – and connections with other area farmers and producers – to offer a wide assortment of Kamloops goods. Even in the winter, Herman said, Nu Leaf Produce will carry as much local product as possible. If it can’t be found locally, it will be imported. But, that’s just in the off-season.
More information to come as Nu Leaf comes up on its first summer season.

Thistle Farm sells a variety of organic produce and fruit to about 150 customers via their box scheme.
Deb Kellogg, co-owner of Thistle Farm, said the boxes contain 100 per cent locally-grown organic vegetables in the summer, alongside some fruit from the Okanagan and some imported tropical fruit. In the winter, the boxes are one-third locally grown.
Thistle Farm can also be found at the Kamloops farmer's market Wednesdays and Saturdays during the summer and fall.
