6: Crown Hill Mausoleum

In addition to restrooms being located in this building, the Peace Chapel is located up the stairs on the second level where a non-demonicational Worship Service will be held at 8:00 a.m.

The front doors to the Mausoleum will be closed during the Opening and Awards Ceremonies.

Race Volunteers need to check-in at this tent for their shirts, race assignment instructions, and light breakfast refreshments. Volunteers with a second assignment need to return to this tent following their first assignment.

14: Registration & Packet Pickup Tent

Pre-registered Race Participants will pickup up their packets here and Race Day Participants can register here.

To pre-register on-line, visit www.tuxbro.com. The on-line registration deadline for teams is September 9. For individuals it's September 11. There's RACE DAY resgistration for individuals from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. (There is no race day registration for teams.)

Visit this tent to find out more about Jason M. Baker, a courageous Sheriff's Deputy killed in the line of the duty protecting our community on Sept. 17, 2001, and to learn about the Public Safety Scholarships given yearly in his honor.

16: Opening & Award Ceremonies

The Opening & Award Ceremonies will be held on the steps of the Crown Hill Mausoleum.

Opening ceremony takes place at 8:15 am and the Awards ceremony takes place at 10:15 am.

Please note that the Mausoleum doors will be CLOSED during these two ceremonies. You can also enter and exit this building through the back door on the lower level.

An outdoor portable restroom is available on the far east side of the Mausoleum.

Many people aren't aware that the north and south grounds located on the 555 acres of the nation's 3rd largest cemetery are connected by the street which passes through an underpass beneath 38th Street.

22: "THE HILL"

Also known as "The Crown," is the largest hill in Marion County and a favorite for runners and walkers to conquer! Located at the top is the memorial of the famous Hoosier Poet, James Whitcomb Riley. Be sure to check out the 360-degree panoramic view of the entire Indianapolis skyline!

This stunning chapel was built in 1875 and was recently restored in 2004.

24: Heroes of Public Safety Memorial & Section

Dedicated on 9-11-2002, this memorial and section honor our city's finest. Inscribed on the walkway around the monument are the names of Indiana's Public Safety servants died in the line of duty. The section was dedicated to all who put their lives on the line as they protect us every day. To the immediate left of the monument is the memorial to Sheriff's Deputy Jason M. Baker who was killed on Sept. 17, 2001 as he courageously protected our community. This race raises funds for college scholarships established in his honor.

26: 38th & Clarendon Road Entrance

Enter through this gate for the Beyond the Badge 5K Run/Walk. The 34th St. gate, located at 34th & Boulevard Place, will be LOCKED throughout the event.

The north gate to Crown Hill Cemetery is located at the first stoplight east of the IMA (Art Museum) and the fourth stoplight west of Meridain St.

27: 34th Street Gate - LOCKED during the race

Built in 1885, this beautiful Gothic gate welcomes visitors into Crown Hill in a grand way. IMPORTANT RACE NOTE: this gate will remain CLOSED throughout the Beyond the Badge 5K Run / Walk. Please enter the north gate located at 38th Street and Clarendon Road. (The 34th St. gate should be re-opened by 12 noon.)

28: President Benjamin Harrison's Memorial

President Benjamin Harrison (1833-1901) -- the 23rd President of the United States. Also a senator and a Civil War General. His wife, Caroline Scott Harrison, was the first president of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution).

Established at the height of the Civil War, the Crown Hill National Cemetery holds the remains of hundreds of Civil War soldiers, as well as from other wars.

31: Lucy Ann Seaton - Crown Hill's 1st Burial

At age 33, Lucy Ann Seaton was a young mother who died of Consumption. She was buried on June 2, 1864 -- one day after Crown Hill Cemetery was dedicated.

39: Waiting Station

Built in 1885, this building was the cemetery's administrative office for many years, then the headquarters for Historic Landmarks of Indiana. Today it's used as a beautiful location for receptions after funerals and it also holds the offices of the Crown Hill Heritage Foundation and the Genealogical Society of Marion County.
