Route to go from Belgrade to Constanta, in the Black Sea, following the Dunav in its last 1000 km, through Serbia, Iron Gate between Carpathians and Balkans, and jumping from Bulgaria to Romania consecutively, in both sides of the river.

SUMMARY OF THE ROUTE

This is a gorgeous trip in 10 stages, than crosses three countries, Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria, that lives besides the river and whose lifes of people that lives beside depends on it. This is part of the Eurovelo 6, the route from the Atlantic to Black Sea, crossing Europe from west to east.

The first part of the trip starts from Belgrade and goes through some non paved paths on the dam that prevents of river waterfloods. Is a very beautiful and lonely part, which allows to see many wild birds on the marshes that leaves the river floods. The more you get far from Belgrade the less traffic are on the local roads.

After two stages, you arrive at Golubac. The fortress marks the begining of the Iron Gate, the second part of the trip. Dunav passes from 5 km wide to hardly 100 meters, in the most gorgeus canyon in Europe. Cliffs of 500 meters and parts where river is above sea level. This are two stages, and in the exit you find the Iron Gate Dam. We pass south of the canyon, in the serbian border. In the north there is Romania.

The third part is the first incursion to Bulgaria till Vdin and crossing the river to Romania, entering in all the gipsy area of the south of Romania. A separated world of the rest of Romania. All are paved roads between cultived country and villages along the road. This are three more stages.

Then you cross the river to Bulgaria another time, in Ruse. You enter the fourth part that is from Ruse to the black Sea, in Constanta, always in the south of the river and entering Romania in the last stage. Two very hard final stages with the wind as the main actor.

WHY CONSTANTA
You can't get to the Danube's Delta with bikes or cars. Only in organized boats. So the best option is to finish in Constanta, in the Black Sea.

WHEN TO GO
The best time is late spring. Not many rain. The winter is cold and the summer is very hot (always above 35 degrees).

HOW TO GET THERE
You can get with plane to Belgrade Airport. In Constanta you can take trains to Bucharest, but a bit difficult to transport the bikes with romanian trains. Only one train a day. There is also an airport in Constanta, but not many international flights. You can also rent a car.

IMPORTANT FACTS
No needs of Visa in any of the three countries if you are european citizen. Beware in Serbia. You need a paper of every day and every hotel to demonstrate where have you spend the nights leaving the country at the frontier.

DIFFICULTIES
The last part is difficult for the wind, because it heads almost all the time from Black Sea. Its a quite flat route, slightly down, but the last stage is quite hilly. The dam is not paved and sometimes difficult to ride in the grass. The rest is alsphalted roads, except some parts that are non paved roads. The paved roads are almost all secondary with few traffic. The most difficult is the traffic of Belgrade, but the route tries to avoid it. The pavement is quite good, but some romanian gipsy parts has many holes.
