TOUR OF GORGES DE ARDECHE

SUMMARY OF THE ROUTE
This is a round trip through the Ardeche canyon in France, which is very impressive. It starts in Pont Saint Spirit, next to the Ardeche river, and goes to Vallon Pont d’Arc, in the first stage of 50 km. The stage is quite short, but it's very interesting doing it slowly, because there are many waypoints where you can stop. The road goes up in the mountaing, with excellent views of the river down the canyon.

This is the most beautiful part of the trip, passing next to the canyon, with impressive views. Pont d'Arc, where the river crosses the big mountaing through a tunnel, is perhaps the better view of the trip.

The second stage returns through the other side of the river, more pacefully and visiting the Ognac groutes, very interesting. In this caves, you can go to 121 m. below ground level. Also interesting the visit of Aigueze, with a beautiful small church with stained glasses of colours.

WHICH BIKE
The better is a trekking bike. But as all the route is paved, you can use road bikes also. There are not very difficult slopes, but the route is quite hilly.

WHEN TO GO
Best time is late spring or summer. Summer can be hot, but in the mountains is quite suportable.

WHERE TO STAY
Logis de France hotels is a good option and very pleasant.

DIFFICULTIES
There are no many difficulties. The route is quite short and easy to do in two days.

STAGES
Here you have all the stages:

STAGE 1: Pont St Esprit-Vallon Pont d'Arc 50 km. The most beautiful, with the Ardeche canyon.
STAGE 2: Vallon Pont d'Arc. 50 km. Returning through the other side of the river.
