TOUR DU PAYS CATHARE
Es tracta d'un tour pel
Pais Càta
r a França, en tres etapes i amb possibilitat de visitar nombrosos castells, com Puivert, Foix, Montsegur i Lagarde. S'inicia a Puivert, i després es dirigeix <200b><200b>a Montbel llac, molt tranquil. Mirepoix, molt bonica, i Foix són pobles següents a visitar. Finalment visitarem Montsegur i el seu impressionant castell.

en Francia, en tres etapas y con posibilidad de visitar numerosos castillos, como Puivert, Foix, Montségur y Lagarde. Inicia en Puivert, y luego se dirige a Montbel lago, muy tranquilo. Mirepoix, muy bonita, y Foix son pueblos siguientes a visitar. Finalmente visitaremos Montségur y su impresionante castillo.
This is a round trip in three stages around the Pais Cathare, with possibility to visit many castles, as Puivert, Foix, Montsegur and Lagarde. It starts in Puivert, and then heads to Montbel lake, very peaceful. Mirepoix, very beautiful, and Foix are next villages to visit. Finally we visit Montsegur and its impressive castle.
SUMMARY OF THE ROUTE
The route starts in Puivert and after a few quilometers you can visit the Chateux of Puivert, with excelents views to the zone. The castle is well preserved and you can climb to the tower. After then you pass through quiet secondary roads to reacha Montbel lake which is very calm.
After then we head to Lagarde, where there is also an interesting castle, which can not be visited. The first stage stops in Mirepoix, an small but very interesting city, with a main square with arcades all over aound. Next stage, we head Foix, an excellent city with a very beautiful old town an a impressive castle in the top of the city. Excellents views to the river.
The way to Tarascon is with heavy traffic, so is perhaps the worst part of the tour. The last stages heads to Montsegur, with a very steep climb. Once in the top, you can access to the castle and visit it with excellent views.
Finally, all the way is down till Puivert, with excellent road with little traffic.
WHICH BIKE
We do the trip with a touring bikes. All the surface is paved on main roads, so you can also use road bikes with no problems.
WHEN TO GO
You can go here all the year long, but perhaps winter can be too cold. Perhaps from May to September is the best time to do the journey.
WHERE TO STAY
In France there is the Logis de France association of hotels, which are very quiet and with high standard of quality and good cooking restaurants. Perhaps is the best option. In every village there is also a public camping with very low rates. It's also an interesting option.
DIFFICULTIES
Perhaps de worst dificult is the traffic of the main road to Foix to Tarascon. There is also a steep climb to Montsegur, but it is very pleasant to get to the top.
HOW TO GET THERE
Perhaps the car is the only way to get to Puivert to start the route.

STAGE 1: Mirepoix 43 km
STAGE 2: Tarascon sur Ariege 55 km
STAGE 3: Puivert 58 km
