TOUR OF EIVISSA AND FORMENTERA

This are two round trips to the island of Eivissa (3 stages) and the smaller Formentera (1 etapa). It's a route by quiet secondary roads starting in the Capital, heading west to Port Sant Antonio, and then heading north east till the beautiful village of Portinatx and his beach. The route returns to Eivissa capital and finally we take a ferry to Formentera, where we ride the only one route than drives to the two impressive lighthouse of its capes.

SUMMARY OF THE ROUTE

The route starts in the Harbour of Eivissa, going down of the ferry. Using quiet secondary paved roads, we head to Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, where you can see the first tipical white church of the island, and crossing many hills we arrive at the beautiful beach of cala Vedella. Impressive are also the views to es Vedra island.

The route continues north following the coast with many climbs and curves, with stunning views to Sa Cunillera Islands, till the road goes down to Sant Antoni de Portmany. This is the end of the first stage, where can you stay in any hotel of this massive turistic village.

From Sant Antonio, the second stage crosses many charming villages of inside the island, like Sant Agnes de Corona, Sant Mateu d'Albarca and Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera. In every one of this villages you can visit the tipical white church. Is also tipical to see big and low fig trees with many sheeps down the branches, out of the hard shine of the summer.

The stage ends in the north cape of the Island, that is the charming beach and village of Portinatx. Next stage, the road goes up and down through many hills inside the island, till you reach Sant Joan de Lebritja and Sant Vicens de Sa Cala. The the road goes down to the east cost, to Cala Sant Vicens, with excellents views to Tagomago island.

The rest of this stage is cycling south along all the cost till Santa Eulalia des riu and the city of Eivissa. In Eivissa you can stay in any of the hotels, and visit the castle with excellents views to the city and Formentera, while you wait the ferry that takes you to this island.

When you reach Formentera, you start the fourth and last stage, perhaps the more beautiful of the trip. Right in Formentera you can visit all the salt factories complex, with many fields of drying water for to make the salt. Then you take the main road, than crosses all the island to reach the impressive sa Mola lighthouse, fitted in a very steep cliff. You turn back, and then you visit other sand beaches in the south like platja de Mitjorn. And finally you take the road to Berberia Cape, with lunatic landscapes and excellent views from the lighthouse, fitted on a very steep cliff.

The route returns to cala Savina, where is the ferry conecting to Eivissa, but first you visit cala Saona, where you can take a bath before finishing the route.

WHICH BIKE
We did the trip with a touring bikes. All the surface is paved on main roads, so you can also use road bikes with no problems.

WHEN TO GO
I thing spring and autumn is the best time to do tour. Summer can be very annoying with the massive tourism. Easter is a very interesting period, because not all hotels are open but enough to you for this route. In april, may and june, hotels begin to open and it's no hight session.

WHERE TO STAY
There are many hotels because this is a very popular touristic destination for their beaches.

DIFFICULTIES
I think there are not difficulties except for the first stage and its hills. The route is paved, with good roads and not many traffic.

HOW TO GET THERE
From Spain the ferry can be the best option to reach the islands. From abroad, better the plane.
