WCRVBB-19-Biking Low Danube - STAGE 05 - Brza Palanka-Vdin 80 km

Etapa 5 de la Ruta que discurre por el bajo Danubio de Belgrado a Constanta, durante 1017 km hasta el Mar Negro en 10 etapas. Va de de Brza Palanka a Vdin ya en tierras de Bulgaria. Así en esta etapa seguimos el Danubio en primera instancia por caminos sin asfaltar cerca del río. Después de Negotin, salimos por la carretera principal que va hacia la frontera serbo-búlgara, ya con pocos coches por poco tráfico transfronterizas. Tras la frontera, entramos en Bulgaria. Los primeros pueblos que encontramos son muy rurales y con una elevada huella de la época comunista. Parece que estamos muchos años atrás. Finalmente llegamos a Vdin, ya con un aire más moderno. Visto y no visto en Bulgaria. Mañana entramos en Rumania.

STAGE DESCRIPTION
In this stage, from Brza Palanka to Vdin, we definitively we finish our part of the trip in Serbia. But first, we ride many kilometers in a very quiet non paved road next to the inmense Danube. We pass many second residences next to the river, and we cross Mihajlovac, a quiet village next to the river. More kilometers in non paved roads and we reach the second Dam of the river (The Iron Gate Dam 2). This has no road over the dam. We follow a quiet paved road to the city of Negotin, the last big one Serbian. We spend the lasts dinars and cross the Bulgarian Border. The first bulgarian city, Bregovo is quite impressive, with many footprints of past comunist times. Good people and peaciful way of life. A central square with almost nothing but people.
The way to Vdin, a good paved road between many harved fields and only a rural village, Gamzovo. Interesting to see the way of life of this country part of Bulgaria. Not many cars and we arrive at Vdin, where we can see a more modern village. End of the first excursion in Bulgaria.

   - Negontin and his central square.

DESTINATION POINT
Vdin is a quite modern city compared to his neighbour countri villages. It has a very pleasant park next to the river, with many restaurants. Also interesting the central square, with communist style buildings, the the Baba Vida fortress, and his excellents views to the river. You can also visit the triangle of the religions. A mosquee, an ortodox church and a jewish sinagoga. All in the same place.

ALTERNATIVE ROUTES
The first part on the non paved road next to the river can be substitued with the main road. The official route also goes from Vdin to the frontier, and from the frontier to Vdin with secondary roads. But the main and shorter road is so good and with almost no traffic, because of the few cars that crosses between the two countries.
