Matsyendranath chariot festival (Jaatra)

This section will be blocked for pulling of chariot from Mangal Bazar to Nuga: (Sundhara) from around 5pm till around 7pm.

Road blocked for Matsyendranath stop at Mangal Bazaar (Durbar square)

Expect traffic congestion at roads converging and diverging this section

Pulling of Matsyendranath chariot starts at around 4pm from Situnga Pond, Pulchowk

 

Traffic jam is expected along these route for installation of Rato Mantsyendranath on the chariot. The event takes place in evening @ 5pm

Chariot is circled around the old city of Patan in this route for 11 consecutive year. On the 12th year the jaatra starts from Bungamati, takes the same route in Patan and then it is brought back to Bungamati

The chariot will be pulled till this station on May 13th

The Final Station
Reached here at 7:28 on June 24th
The finale with demonstration of "bhoto" will be conducted on June 27th (Sun)

Ratha pulling will resume on June 21 (Asar 7).

The pulling of the chariot resumes on June 25 (Asar 11).

Will resume the festival on a auspicious day that will be decided by astrologers .. will head for final destination - Jawalakhel

And interesting event, only women pull the rath, only a short

Matsyendranath makes two circle around a tree at Lagankhel - the symbol of mother of the rain god, then pulled about 100meters northward.

 

Coconuts will be dropped from the top of the chariot.  It is believed that the lucky one who catches the coconut shall be blessed with a son.

 

Chariot will be pulled by ladies only on May 4, early in morning.  (the only event that only females participate)

The most interesting part will be 180 degree turn at Sundhara Patan on the evening of May 9th, 2011

The rain god will dwell in this temple half of the year during its stay in Patan (except) during the chariot festival.

For another half year, it will be kept in Machhindra bahal in Bungamati.

Considered as the mother of Machhindranath. Will make one circle on the first day and 2 more circles on other day that makes it's station at the this station makes complete.
