In April 2000, WWF inaugurated the WWF Coral Reef Conservation and Research Centre in Shiraho Village on Ishigaki Island, Okinawa. Since then the centre has been involved in community-based conservation for sustainable resource management and use, based on research, monitoring and environmental education. WWF is a leader in international efforts to find long term solutions to benefit people and nature. Because of more than 5 million independent supporters, our conservation efforts address global threats and we work to protect endangered species and habitats in more than 100 countries around the world.
