West African waters harbour several species of small cetaceans, among them the endemic Atlantic humpback dolphin (Sousa teuszii) or a largely isolated population of long-beaked common dolphins (Delphinus capensis). In contrast to other regions in the world, the conservation situation of small cetaceans in West Africa is not well known. WWF is a leader in international efforts to find long term solutions to benefit people and nature. Because of more than 5 million independent supporters, our conservation efforts address global threats and we work to protect endangered species and habitats in more than 100 countries around the world.
