var55_Paragraph1_Text: Like many women, Rosine, a Tutsi, had to watch as her husband was killed before her eyes. Then, after being severely beaten, she and her two daughters were taken to a lake with dozens of others and thrown into the water to drown. They were the only survivors. The Women for Women International sponsorship program gave her the funds to get on her feet again. Today, she produces cassava and sweet potatoes and owns two cows and some goats. Being able to sustain herself and her children has also increased Rosine's sense of self-worth.
