var55_Paragraph1_Text: Prescilla is the first of her husband's nine wives. Like women in many areas emerging from war, she has taken on leadership roles that women in traditional patriarchal societies are rarely permitted to play. After her husband died, she became head of a large family clan, a successful businesswoman, and a recognized political leader. The sign at her store reads "Don't make friendship with credit. Come tomorrow. We are still going on, if God wills. New Sudan."
