var55_Paragraph1_Text: "I endured the cruelty of my husband because I didn't have other choices. I was also lucky enough to have a father who saved me." She left her marriage and returned home where she worked weaving carpets with her family and took another job at a textile factory. Community members derided her for leaving her husband and working outside the home. When the Taliban fell she enrolled in gender-awareness classes and learned to cut semi-precious stones--work that was previously the domain of men. Today she teaches other women stone-cutting, beadwork and design.
