WaterAid | Uganda

In Uganda 60% of people have safe water and only 43% have sanitation.

WaterAid works with seven partner organisations in five districts of Uganda, helping poor communities set up and manage their own low-cost, sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene education projects.

Technologies include hand-dug wells, rainwater harvesting, composting latrines and traditional pit latrines. In the Mpigi district, a water resource guide called Atlas has helped to map the distribution of waterpoints. This information will be vital in allowing local governments to prioritise those areas which are most in need.

WaterAid is also building the capacity of the decentralised district governments to manage funding effectively and also support the Uganda Water and Sanitation Network, which enables NGOs to share knowledge and coordinate activities.
