WaterAid | Living on shifting sands

Providing water and sanitation in one of the most hazardous regions of Bangladesh.

For communities living on scattered sandbanks, called chars, in the centre of the Jamuna River in Bangladesh, life is tough: dusty in the dry season, flooded and eroded when the monsoon rains come. Accessing clean water is a big challenge.

On Erendabari Char, one of the larger, more stable, sandbanks, life has started to improve. WaterAid has been working with Unnayan Shahojogy Team enabling 1,000 people to gain access to safe water. Latrines are being constructed and hygiene education is underway.
