Ronald Joseph Barrie, 22. The Beaverton man died July 17, more than a week after he was hit on the side of the head with a baseball bat during an altercation at the Somerset West apartments, 18205 N.W. Bronson Road, Bethany. Barrie, his stepbrother and a friend went to the apartments July 9 to confront Herbert Kaneholani for threatening Barrie's sister. Kaneholani told police he hit Barrie with the bat and punched another of the men in the face in self-defense. Kaneholani was convicted of second-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon, and sentenced to 8 1/2 years in prison.
