Cameron Bell, 6. Fatally shot by his father, Charles Bell, in a field off Southeast Golden Road. Bell, 54, then fatally shot himself. Each were shot once to the head. Hillsboro police say Cameron went to his first-grade class at Ladd Acres Elementary School but his father picked him up at about 9:30 a.m. About 4:30 p.m., Hillsboro police responded to a church at 5580 S.E. Golden Road, after someone reported two bodies lying in the field. Officers found Bell's vehicle in the church parking lot and the bodies about 30 yards away. Detectives found a .40-caliber handgun and two expended rounds nearby. Bell did not have a criminal record in Hillsboro, and no suicide note was found. Bell's wife died a few years ago, police said. Charles Bell was known as Grant to his family, which issued a statement: "Grant was a kind and gentle man. Cameron was a very smart boy who loved to read and who was much loved by his father. Grant and Cameron will be missed by their entire family."
