Garacad, Somalia. (Garacaade or Gara'ad or Garaade or Grarad or Garaad) A pirate home town. It was made famous in 2008, when a pirate group from Garacad seized and held the French luxury yacht Le Ponant and its crew for ransom offshore. Some of the pirates were captured by French commandos near here in the desert as they tried to escape in 4WD vehicles. (Placemark not as precise, due to lack of high resolution imaging - October 2008)
