Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist he began his public teaching; he is generally considered to have been about thirty years old at that time. "These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing." John 1.28 But there is no place called Bethany near the Jourdain. The placemark is at the traditional site in the ford East of Jericho.
