One of the largest surviving sites in the Delta on the ruins of the ancient Egyptian city of Smabehdet, known in the New Kingdom as Paiuenamun. Survey and excavation by the British Museum since 1991 has located temple foundations of Sheshonk III, Psamtik I and Nekhtnebef, all dated by foundation-deposits. The temple site lies on the south part of the mound and is surrounded by enclosure walls of dynasties 26 and 30. Tomb of a Lower Egyptian Vizier named Iken, dating from the reign of Osorkon I, found in 1998 and other elite tombs of Dynasty 22 were discovered in the following year at the front of the Ramesside temple of Amun.
