The monument was opened in 1982, on the 20th anniversary of independence and it is not exactly what you may call beautiful, however it is striking for its size.This monument was built to remember those who fell during the war for independence. The Algerian war of independence is one of the bloodiest wars fought on the African continent. More than 1.5 million Algerians died in the struggle.
