Red-light cameras may be the wave of the future for some cities, but Pearland city officials expressed skepticism about the idea during a workshop meeting Monday night.
City Council is expected this summer to decide whether to purchase the cameras, which are now in operation in Houston at about 50 intersections. Houston began issuing red-light camera violations in September.
Based on a review of accident reports since 1999, Pearland Police Chief J.C. Doyle said the best locations to place red-light cameras would be along Broadway at Pearland Parkway, Cullen Boulevard, County Road 89, Miller Ranch Road and County Road 90.
