Shenzhen is a major economic hub in China. As the first Special Economic Zone (SEZ) established in China in 1979, it is now a hotspot of industrial manufacturing, high-tech production, and a gateway into Hong Kong. It has also been selected as one of 7 carbon emissions trading pilots. It ranked 2nd on the latest PITI. Guandong province is also the 8th richest province, with a GDP per capita of $7,787.
