The
nuclear-powered aircraft carrier sailed
to the Gulf from the Mediterranean, reportedly only the fourth time in the past decade that the US has simultaneously had two carriers in the region. The ship then made a port visit to Jebel Ali, UAE. As of May 1, the Enterprise was operating in the Arabian Sea conducting missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, according to the spokeswoman for the US Fifth Fleet. It has eight nuclear reactors on board and will be retired after seven months in the Middle East, on standby in case of pirate incidents near Somalia or
conflict with Iran.
